Mental Health and Wellbeing
Player welfare
In addition to the provisions under the safeguarding aspects of rugby, player welfare is a traditionally less considered aspect of the game but with greater awareness in society and specifically focussed programmes, mental health is as much a part of player welfare as hot showers, post protectors and a good supply of training and playing kit. Player welfare is a wide ranging aspect of RugbySafe widely encompassing aspect of the game and every club will have its own solution to it own situations. The aim of the CRFU is to provide a forum for clubs to share those solutions.

It is estimated that one in four people will experience a mental health illness each year in the UK.
For these people, the pressures and strains of life and work can act as a catalyst to mental health problems, with the most common being depression and anxiety.
The links between good physical and mental health are well recognised.
Physical activity – such as playing rugby – can be incredibly beneficial for mental health and wellbeing as well as bringing physical benefits.
Good Mental Health is often overlooked as a ‘taboo subject’
The CRFU Rugby Safe Lead, wholly supported by the CRFU Management Board, is fully committed in ensuring adequate and appropriate support is offered any time of the day to any member of any Club throughout Cornwall.
