Cornwall U20’s continued their build up to the forthcoming County Championship with a final warm up game v Camborne School of Mines at Hayle RFC on Wednesday evening in front of a good crowd in excess of 150 spectators. The U20’s ran out winners 45-0.
The CSM were not up to full strength and were forced to bring in a few guests. However, they gave the U20’s a stern test particularly on defence, where some stiff tackles went in.
U20’s started brightly with the opening try coming in the first minute. The second followed after 15 minutes. However, U20’s then managed to give away a succession of penalties for technical offences, some 20 in 1st half alone.
Half time saw the score at 17-0.
The U20’s team was made up of 25 players and between 45 and 47 minutes the coaches emptied the bench and everyone had a run out.
As the CSM tired towards the end the U20’s ran in a number of tries eventually winning 45-0. The coaches were generally pleased with the performance but the number of penalties conceded was an issue to be addressed in the next training sessions of which there are 2 before the Championship begins.
A solid performance, particularly in defence, but work still to be done.
